So as I've been having dreams that I will meet my host family tomorrow at 2:00pm (I don't know for certian other than that!) I thought it'd be nice if I got up and washed my cloths this morning. Something seemed rude about getting to my host family and handing my Okasan (mother) a dirty load of laundry along with my welcome presents.
So, the washers and dryers in the dorms cost money. Not surprising given it's Japan and they want to deter excess. So it's 200 yen for the washer (mind you it only accepts coins) and 100 yen for the dryer. So I go downstairs, throw my laundry in, use some detergent I borrowed from a roomate. (Also, the detergent in Japan is like completely non-polluting it's nifty) I didn't want to buy a 6.00$ bottle of detergent just for one load.
Anyways! I didn't even think about it because I still have a ton of money. So I realized, all my money is in bills, I have 100 yen coins. So here's me, half pj-s, half dressed, running around the dorm (of course all my roommates are in the same boat with the lack of coins). The dorm Okasan isn't there, so I'm at the point of asking random people for just 200 yen!!! Finally one guy takes pity on me and just hands it to me, and then another roomate of mine got up and gave me the other 100 yen coin so I could finish washing and drying my cloths.
What an adventure at 7:30am in the morning!!!

The picttures are great....What's with the hat? I assume the restaurant pic was the sushi place.
ReplyDeleteSounds the the wash was quite an adventure at 7:30 AM....hey, you being awake enough to do wash at 7:30 AM is an adventure in itself (only kidding sleep head)....
Your poor body is taking a beating! Be kind to yourself for a few days....you are going to be in Japan for a semester...you don't havr to do everything all at once.
The trip to Toyko sounds like a lot of fun. It would be good to go with a group. You can share guest house expenses and have fun exploring together.
We love you and miss you!
They didn't think to put a change machine in the laundry???
ReplyDeleteNope!! I looked for one, and not a single one was to be found.
