I stopped by the Ceramics Classroom too today. I want to take the intermediate class instead of the beginners, because I know how to throw already and in the book it says I need to get the approval of the sensei.
The ceramics room is on the top of the building, with a large window spanning an entire wall looking out over the campus. It smells like clay and makes me happy to be in there. The Sensei was in jean shorts and a baggy tee-shirt. He had scraggly hair, flipflops, and was covered in dried clay. In sort, the dude was laid back and awesome!
He said he didn't really have control anymore about who got placed where, so I had to take it up with the people who work downstairs. But he spoke with me about glaze, and throwing, it flip-flopped between english and Japanese conversation. But in short the studio is awesome looking and the professor seems very cool.
