Homestay and Conveyer Belt Sushi

So I went to a meeting about Homestay, and got re-assured. Then I got information about my family on a sheet in my mailbox. They don't have any pets, and none of them smoke or drink. They live 35 minutes away from campus by bus, but I'm wondering if I could perhaps bike in about 40 minutes. I've been walking about 25 minutes to campus from the Seminar Houses anyways. I suppose I'll see when I get there. Even though I know people who live closer to campus, I'm content, it's much closer than the homestays that are 1.5 hours away.

There is, of course, a mom and a dad. There's also a big brother and a big sister. The brother is 22 years old, and the sister is 25 I believe. I think they still live at home, or they wouldn't be on my sheet. The father and children are all "Company Employees" and the mom is a housewife. She wants me to teach english to her.

They've had a homestay student before, which is also reassuring. They likely will be more leniant and know how to work things better. My room (which they mesaure in standard sizes of tatami mats ) is a good size, it's the size of the room I've been sharing with two others right now, and I have it to myself. I don't know if it's a Western-Style or Traditional-Style room, but either is fine, I've gotten comftorable on the futons.

I meet them and move in on Saturday, I find out what time tomorrow. I'm excited for it, the only thing I'm still holding my breath about is if they have internet. Even though I don't want to spend all my time on the internet, having it for skype and website updates will be a world of convenances.

Following that I hung out a bit, went to a seminar on Woman's issues - no real new information there.

The Moroccans have been fasting because it is Radiman right now, they want me to fast a day with them as an experience, but the thought of not eating or drinking from sun up to sun down sounds miserable! I admire their religious dedication though. Everyone wanted to go eat at the sushi place we discovered last night so we took the treck. I've decided on average I walk between 12-20 miles a day. It's about 5 miles for a round-trip walk to campus alone (like I said, it takes 25 minutes)

The sushi place was AMAZING. We sat down and ordered on a digital screen. Then a little train on the top belt would wheel out what we ordered to us. Meanwhile, a little belt below went continously around with Sushi that you could just take without ordering. Every plate was 105 yen, and you'd get 2 pieces of sashimi, or about 4 rolls, 3 takonomiyaki, ect... They had other things for a little more money, but we were interested in the Sushi really. They also had a spicket at each table and tea bags, and cups over the conveyer belts for hot tea, free. After 4 plates each we were all full. A delicious sushi dinner for 4.20 yen!

On the way back we passed some people just headed out to the restraunt. We're worried they may not make cerfew and be locked out, but that's really their issue to be honest.

My legs are so tired. Walking around all day is exhausting... I still havent sung Karaoke yet, maybe I'll do it Friday night. I signed up for the Kyoto trip on Friday though, we're going with a bunch of Japanese students as our 'tour guides.'

I'm beginning to become a lot more settled. Me and some of my current roomates (who all decided that homestay people must come and hang out after we leave) were discussing things and we all decided that we're "comftorable with being uncomftorable." I'm getting used to having to ask people to repeat things, or not understanding at first, or struggling to get my point across. I still don't like it, but it bothers me less.

I've made some great friends, the Moraccans said that if I ever come to Moracco I can stay at their place. But I miss people back home, and things I'm comftorable with. I'm hoping when I can unpack I'll feel a bit more settled in my current life.

Well, it's 9:50, meaning time to go upstairs, shower, and sleep by 10:30pm to be up again by 7:00am. I'm so rebellious!

  2. I want conveyor belt sushi! I went to a place that had little boats that float along a thin channel between all the tables. Each plate color determines the price. But no ordering on flatscreen, it's only whatever comes out that someone else doesn't get first! Kind of like in the wild...when a pride of lions takes down an antelope and they fight to eat what they can get...only less exciting than that...
